Pandavapura - Town of pandavas...



‘Town of Pandavas’ and so is the name Pandavpura. Pandavapura features during the Mahabharata period and it is said that pandavas ended their exile of 14 years here. Here is where Bheema slayed Bakasure, the demon.

After Indian independence these rocky hills called as “Kuntti Betta” by locals. Also the French named the small town as “French rocks”, as the town is in the vicinity of two rocky hills. Apart from the rocks, Pandavapura lake is a beautiful place to visit. The full view Pandavapura lake at the base of the hill could be seen only from the hilltop.

The view from the top of the hill is astounding with alternate square sugarcane and paddy fields spread like a design on a quilt till the horizon. While the clouds formed shadows on the lake, the color of the sky & the sun created magic of the surface of the lake.

Biligiri Ranganna Hills

Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary...



Hampi near Hospet, in Bellary district is a renowned world heritage centre. The unique Sloth Bear sanctuary is situated very close to this heritage site. Situated only 15 kilometers from Hampi, Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in North Karnataka.

It has proved to be a suitable habitat for the Indian Sloth Bears in a span of few years. It is estimated that about 120 Sloth Bears are living in this sanctuary, apart from Leopards, Hyena, Jackals, Wild Boars, Porcupine, Pangolins, Star Tortoise, Monitor Lizard, Mongoose, Pea Fowls, Partridges, Painted Spur Hen, Quails etc. About 90 species of birds, and 27 species of butterflies have also been identified in this sanctuary in a preliminary survey.

Coorg – The Scotland of India!!!

It's all about birding at Ranganthittu...




Ranganthittu’s popularity is grown not only in India but it has grown widely among foreign tourists too. Ranganthittu is situated in the bank of the river kaveri, near Mysore in Karnataka. It was declared as bird sanctuary in 1940 and since then the sanctuary has become as a paradise for bird watchers.

The six isles on the river Kaveri is also a part of this sanctuary. Apart from it being a home for native avian habitants, the sanctuary each year attracts a large number of migratory birds. According to the experts they believe that birds come to this sanctuary from as far as Siberia, Australia and even north America.

Mullayangiri - Highest Peak Point in Karnataka


Mullayangiri is a small Hillock in the temple compound, it is the highest peak point in Karnataka. There is a small temple (matta) on top of the hill. Its around 250 kms form Banagalore and 12 kms away from Chickamalgur.

It stands at 1930 meters and is the tallest peak in Karnataka. Mullayangiri is part of the the Baba Budan Giri Hill Ranges. Trekking through the beutiful Mullayangiri is the best experience. From the base, a place called Sarpad­hari (snake path), the climb to Mul­layan­giri is quite steep.

Baba Budan Giri its name from the Muslim Saint, Baba Budan. He resided here for more than 150 years and reared coffee from the seeds he had secured form yemen. It is situated 30 kms away from Chickmaglur and it is 1895 meters high.

The skies are a vibrant shade of blue and the scenery and view is cap­ti­vat­ing. Being a part of this Hillock and trekking all along is an enchanting experience in itself.

Kokkare Bellur of Pelicans and Painted storks…

Kokkare Bellur is village in Karnataka famous for its rare birds. Kokkare Bellur is one of the few nesting sites in India of the spotbilled pelican. In addition, it is also home to hundreds of painted storks. The best time to see the pelicans is in December and January.

Located off the Mysore highway, about 75 km from Bangalore. The spot billed pelican (Pelicans philippensis) is a globally threatened species that has suffered a rapid decline in population during that past seventy years. Of the ten known nesting sites in India the pelicanry at Kolamuru village in AP and one at Kaziranga in Assam have now been virtually abandoned.

Elephants Paradise… Dubare Elephant Camp

Dubare is a forest area, amidst the thriving greenery of Coorg on the banks of river Kaveri, in between Kushalnagar and Siddapur. This area is populated by the Kurbas, the local tribals. During the period of Maharaja of Mysore, the Dubare reserve forest was used to train the elephants for the impressive Mysore Dussehra festival. The Karnataka Forest Department has about 150 Elephants in various camps and Dubare has been historically an important camp.

Dubare is the destination for the tourists to get an adventurous stay and as such can be really a fun trip as well as real adventure. Dubare offers to its visitor’s fun fishing, rafting and trekking in the wild hilly terrains. Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary



Bhadra wildlife sanctuary is situated in the midst of Western Ghat in Chikmagalur and Shimoga districts of Karnataka. It is surrounded by lofty hill ranges of Mullaianagiri, Hebbegiri, Gangegiri & Babaudangiri, also the picturesque Bhadra river.

The lush green vegetation of the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary consists of mostly moist and dry deciduous forests. More than 120 tree species grow here, which include Teak, Rosewood, Mathi, Honne, Nandi, Tadasalu and Kindal.

The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary boasts of a substantial tiger population and as such the sanctuary was declared the 25th Project Tiger reserve of India in 1998. The Second Largest Monolith of Asia - Madhugiri



Madhugiri is a town in Tumkur district in Karnataka. Madhugiri, or also known as Maddagiri. Madhugiri is famous for its giant rock overlooking the town and the fort nestling in its steep slopes. The giant rock is the second largest monolith of Asia. This monolith and the surrounding greenery of Madhugiri are the main attractions.

Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary



Dandeli wildlife sanctuary is located in the banks of river kali, amidst thick forests and hills in Uttara Kannada district. The calm and peaceful Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is reputed as the largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka. Nestling some very rare animal and birds is an unspoilt, untouched and unexplored treasure of wildlife that is sure to leave you spellbound.

Dandeli is very rich in flora and fauna. The forest in Dandeli is typical moist deciduous and semi evergreen types, with pockets of every green. Bannerghatta National park is one of the richest natural zoological reserves present in India. Situated 22 kms from Bangalore city, is the major tourist attraction in the state of Karnataka.

Anshi National Park - One destination with array of bird species...





The Anshi National Park in Karnataka is spread over an area of 340 square kilometers. It was made into a national park in the year 1956.

The national park is an nesting place for various species of birds and insects. In addition, there are also diverse species of mammals and reptiles in the park.

Kabini’s spectacular wildlife and bird life!!!




Kabini is one of the most popular wildlife destinations of Karnataka, probably because of its easy accessibility, lush green landscape surrounding a large picturesque lake, and fantastic sightings of large herds of elephants.

It is 80 km away from Mysore and 205 km from Bangalore, and comprises the south-eastern part of Nagarole National Park. Situated on the banks of River Kabini, this forest reserve is spread over 55 acres of forestland, steep valleys, and water bodies.

Now it is considered to be one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in Karnataka, famous for its spectacular wildlife and bird life. If any animal rules Kabini, it is the elephant. ‘Snake Stream’ of Karnataka - Nagarhole National Park




Nagarhole National Park derives its name from the combination of two kannada words. 'Nagar' means snake, and 'hole', meaning streams. True its name, quite a few serpentine streams fork through the ricg tropical forests of the park. The park has been recently named as Rajiv Gandhi National Park after late Prime minister of India.

Nagarhole is counted among India’s best wildlife parks. It has a large elephant and bison population. It also hosts a variety of animal species along with approximately 250 species of birds. The park is home to elephant, tiger, panther, sambar, chital, sloth bear, leopard, jungle cat, jackal, wild dog and some of the birds that you may come across are Malabar trogon, crested hawk-eagle, crested serpent-eagle and Malabar pied-hornbill.

On its northern confines is the Kabini River and on its southern fringes is the Bandipur national park. A dam on the Kabini River and its picturesque reservoir demarcates the two national parks. During the dry season (February. June), this artificial lake attracts a large number of animals, making it an ideal spot for sighting wildlife.
