Siddapur

Situated near Sirsi is a small town called as Siddapur, basically falls under western ghats of malnad region. Due to its hilly region and dense forest cover many tourists are attracted. Hills in an around makes it hot spot for trekking, and waterfalls adds to the people interested in water activities. The cool climate here makes it very pleasant, composed and calm environment.
There are few more destinations around Siddapur they are Dubare Forest Reserve, Jog Falls, Honnemaradu, Burude falls, Unchalli falls to visit. Also one can visit the temples Sree Lakshmi Venkatasha, Ragavendra Mutt, Sree Lakshmi Narayana Temple, Shanakar Mutt, and Chadragutti tepme. If you plan to visit with your entire family, it could be a complete different experience. As young one could go trekking and indulge into other activities and the old ones could visit the temples.
Siddapur is about 400kms from Bangalore. Transportation from Bangalore is easy many government and private buses are available. The nearest airport is in Hubli thats about 140 kms approx.

Madhugiri

40 kms away from tumkur is this place named a Madhugiri, it is a hill and is known as second largest dome/monolithic rock in Asia. Trekking seemed to be the best option, so we (5 friends and me) started to plan. As per the plan we had to leave the next day which was not at all planned. Also none of us were aware of the place, but just the excitement to go for a trek on the second largest monolith lead us all with exuberance.

We left pretty early as we were completely clueless about the place, last minute plan provoked us to get everything done by tourism comapny called Travelife. So the cab was ready outside my house at 6.00 AM, all of us had gathered at my place as it was at the centre. Our way to Madhugiri left us with mixed feelings as in how it will be?, will we enjoy?, was it right thing to go through a travel company? Also the lack of sleep will it result in a bad trek? And so many more questions. In the mean while we stopped for breakfast at small shop kind, had hot idli vadas and enjoyed the breakfast by sipping hot coffee. Settling in the car we started towards the Fort.

Reaching the destination just held my breath, the height of the fort was beyond belief. I felt as if to trek Madhugiri would have been taken all the energy I saved until this moment, it looked so humungous. It was not possible to get complete height of the hill in one view, we definitely under estimated Madhugiri even in our imagination. We started climbing the steps, seemed very easy initially as they were carved. There were few places it was little risky as steps were very tiny and had no room to hold on to something. As time passed it was getting sunny, we were feeling the pain in the legs and also haste to reach the top. we sat, had some water, one of my friend had to drink so much of Glucose she could hardly climb the steps constantly for 10 mins. Laughing out the experience we started to realize the fort had 7 – 8 rounds of defensive walls, numerous watch towers, inverted domes which looked like store house and several buildings which were either barracks for soldiers or were used as warehouses. This was just half way through the fort but we were almost giving up, but Bharath(Co-ordinator from Travelife) helped in rising our spirits high and we started to move towards the acme. Finally reaching up on top made us feel as an achievement for lifetime and the surrounding made us feel like the best thing ever. It was the most wonderful experience in the world. On top we found a ruined temple, a large warehouse, a big manhole which could be an escape tunnel.

Madhugiri is an exceptional trekking spot, non commercialized and best for one day outing. However this place was exceptional just because we had Travelife to guide us all way through and Bharath made the trek as easy as possible. We owe the team of Travelife to make Madhugiri happen.

Anshi National Park

Travelife organized a trip for us to Anshi national park, not being aware of North Kannada in Karnataka. Anshi lies on the Karwar-Londa highway and is a part of Dandeli wildlife sanctuary. We had our cab ready at 10 pm and we were handed with the schedule by the Travelife coordinator on how the trip is going to be executed. As per the schedule we had to reach the resort at 5 am.

Our journey to Dandeli was very comfortable and all the 13 of us slept very well. The coordinator woke us up as we had reached the resort, settling inside we all just took some time and freshened up. Sipping hot cup of coffee we all felt so fresh and energetic to start with our day full of adventure. Few miles from the resort we reached the point were we had to start the trek, unloading the vehicle we started following our coordinator. Topographically anshi has deep valleys, steep hill slopes and dense forests. Passing through the park we observed some rare speices of flora and fauna, Teak, Silver oaks, Eucalyptus, weeds, Bauhinia, Diodspyrus, Xylia xyrocarpa, Diospyrous Acacia and Bambusa.

The animals we came across were Elephants, gaur, wild boar, sambar, spotted deer, barking deer, mouse deer, common langur, bonnet macaque, slender loris, jungle cat, black panther, mongoose, wild dog, sloth bear, Malabar giant squirrel and the porcupine. This definitely made it a unique and very educational kind of a trip for us and it was executed very well. The Schedule organized by Travelife was really a memorable one, truly they made this experience worth life living. We heartily thank the team of Travelife to make this happen to us.

Halebidu - At its Best!!!

Halebid has several outstandingly beautiful Hoysala temples and Jain shrines. These temples are sculptural variety, richly endowed with most finely detailed work in stone. One can see a hummock where the Palace stood, a sight having archaeological significance and exquisiteness.

Halebid in Kannada means destroyed past, or one can say small town with several large tanks, highlighting its glorious past a ruined city. Halebid is the house of lots of tourist attractions including Hoysaleswara temple, Basadi Halli, Belur, Shantaleswara Temple and Kedareswara Temple. It has a museum which has a good collection of Ancient Sculptors.

Halebid temples are cut from soft stone allowing for very intricate carvings on the walls. Among the great temple complexes of South India, they are comparable to the Khajuraho temples of Madhya Pradesh.It is located 225kms from Bangalore, it is well connected by road and rail.

Mullayangiri

Memorable experience of Mullayangiri trek made possible to us by Travelife. 6 of us waiting at the pick up point, thinking of so many things of how we are gonna start the trek, how end it everything was like a wind of thoughts. Settling in the car hired from Travelife made us feel little comfortable, all of us chanting on when we will reach and how we will trek. All of us tired from the hectic schedule t work made us just goto sleep in no time.

Chirping of the birds and bright sun rays falling on my face from a small window helped me to be awake. The cool breeze on my face just felt like am in the lap of the nature and this feeling was wonderful. We realized that we had already crossed the sarpadhari (Starting point of trek). As per our driver’s instructions we unloaded the car and started walking down, amidst the nature, beautiful hillocks, densely covered trees with wild flowers. Realized our trek had already started, initial part was steep and scary but left with lots of excitement within us. It was kind off rocky but was not that difficult to trek on them. In between we kept taking breaks as we wanted to have maximum pictures of most of the trek, everyone of us wanted to capture Mullayangiri in their cameras. Weather was so beautiful, ideal time for trekking, it was kind off misty little chilled and sunny. In no time we reached the nandi statue this had a roof like structure on top of the statue which is made out of rock. Heading towards the peak led us to another Nandi, this time it was inside the cave and it was deep. Now reaching the third and final nandi, we could see the sea level and the valley steep and deep down from here. Shiva temple made it look like a fort. The trek all the way from bottom till the top was a different experience altogether. Relaxing in between the clouds was a magnificent experience and after a while we had to start towards the base truly disappointing.

Climbing down was so easy and quick, we enjoyed the steep valley walking leisurely, talking, taking halts to just sit back and enjoy the beautiful view of the valley. It was lunch time when we reached the base had good lunch and water as we did a good amount of labor work. Jokes apart it was one of the best experiences of lifetime. Chikamagalur

Chikamaglur is one of the best Hill stations in Karnataka. The name Chikmagalur means town of younger daughter is a very scenic destination, and has the major coffee plantations in Karnataka. Its full of valleys, streams and snow-white coffee blossoms and very much a trekker’s delight, with its rugged mountain trails.

Its one of the largest district in Karnataka in southern India, to the north is Shimoga district, tumkur to its east and Hassan to the South. Large part of the district is covered with forests and some part of it is covered with river and lake such as Bhadra, Tunga, Netravati etc flow for the entire year. The western ghats are house of mountain terrains and plateaus, Mullayangiri (highest peak in the state), Kemmanagundi and Kudremukh are also a part Chikamaglur. Kabini

See from Ganesh eyes the entire of Kabini experience he had….
Sighting a Leopard at kabini is like a dream come true and this it was dream, actually I was more determined to see a Leopard. Capturing a leopard in your camera is like an achievement and I think every photographer would wanna make that happen.
Travelife organized the accommodation for us at a resort which included jeep safari as well boat safari. Let me tell you boat safari is the best experience we had, our guide took us on the river on a motor boat. We motored down the stream passing crocodiles, deer, wild boar, elephants, stork, eagles and deer. Here we 3 different variety of deer’s : spotted deer, sambar and barking deer’s who actually sound bizarre when they get started. Plenty of monkeys and peacocks were strolling freely on the shores of kabini. This helped us take a lot of pictures. Also we found lot of local fishermen tossing the fishing nets near the shore, children playing alongside their parents and people crossing the river on coracle boats.
Jeep safari was an extreme experience, for the first time ever I encountered 350 species of birds. Riverine habitat allows the forest to be surrounded with ample of opportunities for bird watching and wildlife sighting too. Starting to move further inside the jungle came across a herd of Indian Gaur and it was fantastic capturing some great shots of these gaurs. Moving head we spotted deers, Hanuman langurs, Elephants, serpent eagles and this all lead to gunny bag of excitement. Encouraged and thrilled enough to look in all directions possible, the guard just spotted the leopard on a tree branch making one of the most memorable for everyone. For the first we saw a beautiful cat in the wild, resulting a shiver in me for few seconds not allowing me to press the shutter button.
In no time so many jeeps were in there to capture the leopard on the tree branch. The cat disappeared between the bushes after a few minutes but this enthralling experience was there within us for the rest of the evening. The day ended with the most memorable photograph of a leopard. After this we had our dinner at resort booked for us by Travelife and the day ended.
