Pench National Park



Located in southern Madhya Pradesh is Pench National Park, spread across about 275 sq kms which is in Madhya Pradesh and about 10% is in Maharashtra. It is 80 kms from Nagpur and 190 kms from Jabalpur end. Its uniqueness is that is in the AVSM (Aravali, Vindhyanchal, Satpura and Maikal Ranges) belt, this teak forest is a different and a pleasant surprise to the normal and scenic parks of Kanha and Bandhavgarh.

The forest area is a combination of dry deciduous forest and tropical moist deciduous forest, and is rich with striking shrubs. Teak, Mahua, Tendu, Bija, Amaltas and Palas all find their home here. Pench’s gorgeous landscape is home to a number of endangered species. Twenty-five glorious tigers share the prey animals with the leopard, wolf, jungle cat, dhol (Indian wild dog), hyena and jackal. Chital, sambhar, muntjac, gaur, wild boar, langur and rhesus macaques also are included. Pench is also a birdwatcher’s paradise. Three hundred fascinating and beautiful species fill the skies with their calls. Parakeets, hornbills, kingfishers, barbets, minivets, orioles, wagtails and a host of majestic raptors, including the crested serpent eagle, crested hawk eagle and white-eyed buzzard.

The best time to visit this national park is between Feb and April. The timings to visit in the morning is 06:00 and 10:30 whereas in the evening it is 03:00 until 06:00. A landscape that supports vibrant and diverse flora and fauna adds a lot to he beauty of Pench National Park.
