Gir National Park



Gir is a natural home for the King of the Jungle, Asiatic Lions are in a great population here and some other species too. Gir is located in the south western part of India in Gujarat’s Junagarh district. Asiatic lions are classified as one of the World’s most threatened species.

Gir is land of rugged with deep ravines, steep rocky hills and river flowing. The flora and fauna is also very rich, the deciduous forest consists of teak, flame of the forest, some acacia and Banyan trees. Few mire species like Umro, vad, charal, sirus, amli are found here. The major of the Lion population across the globe is only in Gujarat, they are also said to be found in Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Other wildlife like Sambar Deer, Chital spotted deer, Nilgai antelope, wild boar, langur monkey, jackal and hyena and numerous birds like Paradise flycatcher, Bonneli eagle, crested serpent eagle, wood peckers flamingo are also the residents of Gir National Park.

The coverage of the Gir National Park is 1412 sq kms this area can explore by driving around the place. Jeep is the most appropriate way to visit the park. There are 3 more places to visit Nalsarovar lake and sanctuary – home to several birds, the little Rann of Kutch – home of Indian wild and lastly the mesmerizing flamingo island. The best time to visit Gir National Park is from November to May.
